Welcome to the first edition of the BCCTC's online newsletter. We sent you a copy because you've attended one of our events or expressed an interest in our Chamber. We plan to send out around six editions a year but if you prefer not to receive them you may unsubscribe simply by clicking the link at the bottom of this email.

BCCTC Introduction

What is the British Canadian Chamber of Trade and Commerce
Founded in 1951, the British Canadian Chamber of Trade and Commerce is a national organization with Divisional offices in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. The Chamber is a private sector non-profit organization that is governed by an elected board. The mission of the Chamber is the promotion of the transatlantic business interests of its members.

The Chamber maintains close ties with Chambers based in Britain via the Canada-United Kingdom Chamber of Commerce, in the European Union via EUCOCIT in Toronto and in the United States via the British American Business Council.

Some of the benefits offered by the Chamber are: Well established & respected trade association, networking forum, advocacy links to federal & provincial governments, strong connection to Her Majesty’s Government across Canada, regular speakers’ luncheons and social events together with an informative web site http://www.bcctc.ca.

Upcoming Events
Since our Christmas Party, the BCCTC’s events and participation in events, have become even more successful. The Pub Night has expanded so much that we are moving to a bigger room (The Basement Bar at the Duke of York). We had two tables at the Mayor of Burlington’s International Lunch Series, where the speaker was David Reddaway, the British High Commissioner to Canada, a table at the St. David’s Day Celebration Gala Dinner, as well as supporting EUCOCIT events. We will also be doing joint events with other like minded associations in the future.

We are currently planning a number of new events which will be listed on our web page in the Events section! Don’t forget the next Pub Night: April 19th, 6:00 pm at the DUKE of YORK (39 Prince Arthur Avenue) Toronto.

Highlights

David Reddaway, British High Commissioner to Canada
Some two hundred people braved a fierce snowstorm on March 1st to hear David Reddaway speak in Burlington at Mayor Rob MacIsaac’s luncheon series. Here are a few highlights of David’s talk:

“Britain and Canada's shared history does give us a very special relationship, but if one does not keep building on these foundations the partnership will decay and become irrelevant. It is a tough and competitive world, but working together we can meet the challenges and seize opportunities. The two countries have a shared vision of a safe, just and prosperous world. Both are committed to democracy, freedom, the rule of law and human rights.”

“Britain is Canada's third largest trading partner. Each year, the two countries exchange $17billion in goods and services. One million Britons visit Canada each year, while 750,000 Canadian tourists go to Britain. 10,000 British troops train in Alberta. The British Air force fly 1,000 sorties in Canada.”

“In the area of trade; Britain focuses on innovation & creativity, has good economic conditions and is close to the world's largest industrial market, the EEC. David also touched on security and defence together with the G8's contribution to the Environment and Africa.

He concluded by saying that "If countries like Canada and Britain don't deal with problems in less fortunate countries, the consequences will come back to us".

For companies with branch offices across the Country. Admits 6 members, wherever located in Canada (substitution is permitted). Corporate listing and full nominated member listing. Sponsor Member Credit with Corporate Logo in the BCCTC magazines, web site and at various functions.

Corporate Membership $650.00
For companies with branch offices in major cities in Canada. Admits up to 5 members (substitution is permitted). Corporate listing and full nominated member listing.

Entrepreneur Membership $135.00
